Petersburg’s borough assembly Tuesday voted to reinstate local COVID-19 health mandates following the expiration of the state’s disaster declaration this month. The assembly also approved a new local travel testing mandate to take the place of a state mandate that’s now an advisory. Many local residents spoke against any health requirements from the municipal government.

Petersburg’s borough assembly Monday voted to approve the purchase of equipment upgrades for the borough’s hydro-electric plant at Blind Slough and to award repair work on the fire-damaged motor pool building.

The case count is climbing for a COVID-19 outbreak in Petersburg this week as local health officials ask the community to take steps to slow the spread.

Petersburg health officials Monday upgraded the community’s risk level to red status and local schools are switching to online learning with COVID-19 spreading in the community.

Petersburg’s emergency operations center reported seven more cases of COVID-19 over the weekend and changed the community’s risk status to orange, level 2, or moderate risk, Sunday evening.
