Southeast high school volleyball rivals to clash again at state tourney

Petersburg High School volleyball won two matches Thursday and will face a familiar foe for a chance at the state 2A championship. The Vikings beat the T-Jacks of King Cove in three games Thursday evening 25-18, 25-14 and 25-17. Petersburg opened up the state tournament at Dimond High School in Anchorage with a three game win over the Su Valley Rams Thursday afternoon.

Petersburg businesses organize canned food drive

Two local companies are teaming up for a convenient and easy holiday canned food drive this month. Petersburg Wrangell Insurance and Hammer and Wikan are putting together Christmas food baskets for families in need and will collecting money for the baskets starting Saturday December 10 at the Hammer and Wikan Grocery store.

PHS wrestlers close out regular season in Wrangell

Petersburg High School’s wrestling team closed out the regular season last weekend with a tournament in Wrangell. 11 PHS wrestlers made the trip. Weather prevented teams from Prince of Wales Island joining in the competition along with Ketchikan and Metlakatla. As a team, Petersburg finished fifth behind Thunder Mountain, Mount Edgecumbe, Sitka and Wrangell.
