Norwegian cruise ship comes to Little Norway

It’s visitor season again in Petersburg, and cruise ship passengers are already wandering the streets in brightly-colored jackets. This year a Norwegian cruise line is stopping here for the first time, with a state-of-the-art hybrid ship. And it’s excited to connect with Petersburg’s Norwegian roots.

Petersburg Parks and Rec partly reopen after weeks of repairs, cleaning

Petersburg’s community gym and pool has been closed since May 20th for annual maintenance work. This year the recreation center has also seen repairs and upgrades from an electrical fire in October of 2020 and other damage suffered that year.

No recycling pick up for Petersburg residential customers this week

Petersburg’s sanitation department is switching this week to every-other-week for curbside collection of recycling for residential customers. That means no pick up for recycling this week, again that’s for residential customers only.

SE commercial pot shrimp fishery switched from fall to spring

Alaska’s Board of Fisheries voted to change a shrimp fishery in Southeast Alaska from the fall to the spring. The board made that change to the commercial pot fishery during its meeting in Anchorage in March.
