Petersburg expects new visits for 2015 tourist season

Petersburg could see a little busier cruise ship and visitor season this summer. The community will see stops from a larger French cruise ship during the warmer months and plans to offer tours for the passengers. Mitkof Island will also see a new ferry connection with Prince of Wales Island starting in May.

Like many other municipalities around the state, Petersburg is starting the discussion on regulating marijuana businesses with a voter-approved measure legalizing pot under state law set to take effect next month. Petersburg’s borough assembly made no decisions on the issue this week but agreed to keep the discussion going.
