Judge rules against Juneau appeal of Petersburg borough boundary

A superior court judge has affirmed the northern boundary of the Petersburg borough approved by the state’s Local Boundary Commission in 2012. The city and borough of Juneau had contested that decision and was seeking to annex some of the same land into its boundaries.

Hatchery salmon eggs lost in fire

Fire destroyed a salmon incubation building and over a million eggs at Crystal Lake Hatchery on Mitkof Island south of Petersburg early Tuesday morning.

Petersburg waits to add onto drive down dock

Petersburg’s borough assembly wants to wait on adding more to the drive-down dock project underway in South Harbor this year. The harbor master and harbor board asked the assembly to add a loading bulkhead back into the plans but assembly members Monday voted to put that decision off until later this year.

Governor advises Petersburg on police station project

Governor Sean Parnell says he supports renovating the Petersburg police station and borough office building but doesn’t think the state will foot all the bill.

Parnell declared his support of the project during a visit to Petersburg Monday.
