Main Street rebuild on track for fall

The City of Petersburg is planning to start a major overhaul of Main Street this fall and planners are trying to minimize disruptions to local businesses. The federal government originally provided about 4 million dollars for the downtown project, which also includes the first block of Dolphin Street and possibly Excel if there is money left. Limited funding led planners to downsize the scope of the project. It’s managed by the State Department of Transportation with ongoing involvement from Petersburg. Council asks Governor for help with DA

Petersburg is taking its concerns about the District Attorney’s office to a higher level. The City Council last night approved a letter asking Governor Sean Parnell for help in the matter.

Salvation Army serves more people

Petersburg’s Salvation Army church saw an increase in the number of people in need of food this past holiday season. The prominent, local charity also raised more money than expected in its annual Kettle Campaign. The church serves anyone who needs help in town throughout the year with a food bank program, energy assistance and emergency housing. Matt Lichtenstein asked Salvation Army Lt. Caleb Fankhauser about the local aid that the church provided over the past year.
