Tower zoning proposal proceeds to decisive meeting Monday

A major zoning update for regulating wireless communications facilities, like towers, is advancing through Petersburg’s municipal process. The Borough Assembly approved a heavily amended version of the ordinance on July 6, drawing criticism from residents and even assembly members who unanimously voted to continue moving the measure forward. Another round of deliberation tonight, July 20, could send the regulations into Borough code.

Fish and Game is extending the area that sport anglers can fish and increasing the amount they can harvest, starting Saturday (July 18). Enough king salmon have returned to the hatchery, leading to more fishing opportunity.

No surcharge for Petersburg power customers after June’s scheduled shutdown

Petersburg runs on diesel generators for several days each June. This year, residents won’t have to pay the usual surcharge for it. Utility Director Steve Harbour announced the decision, considering customer strain with rising rates, and citing combined factors, like community effort, that helped lower load demand and the associated surcharge during this year’s scheduled shutdown.

In reverse decision, Petersburg Borough Assembly approves tower-related land sale and new zoning proposal

The Petersburg Borough Assembly on June 15 unanimously approved two separate tower-related proposals — despite previously rejecting each measure. The Assembly will continue considering the new zoning ordinance for regulating towers, and hold a public hearing for the measure, tonight at 6:00 in the Assembly Chambers.
