Tom Abbott worked at the community radio station in Petersburg for 35 years, serving 27 of those as general manager. His last day was Tuesday, Sept. 2. He says he’s leaving the role confident and hopeful for KFSK’s future.

KFSK in Petersburg, Alaska is looking for a summer intern! This is a fantastic opportunity to get experience with all aspects of reporting for a small radio newsroom and helping run a small rural radio station. The intern will get on-air live hosting experience. They will emerge with a portfolio of stories as well as samples of their on-air work. This is our 20th year running the internship.

Shelby Herbert recently joined the KFSK news team in Petersburg as a reporter. She moved around as a kid as part of a military family and went to high school in Whispering Pines, North Carolina.
In January, she moved up to Alaska after earning her Master’s degree in Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Herbert spoke with Rachel Cassandra and they talked about her journey to KFSK and what it’s like reporting in Petersburg.
