A trio of artists from around the world will be performing in Alaska over the next week. They’ll be in Petersburg at the Wright Auditorium November 1. The musicians are part of Lyric and Spirit, an ongoing project showcasing female voices. As KFSK’s Hannah Flor reports, the traveling trio is blending their inspirations to create new unique sounds.

Music fans in Petersburg will be treated to more outdoor concerts this year in what’s called the Moving Music Concert Series. The series is a partnership between the Petersburg Arts Council and the Petersburg Borough’s Parks and Rec Department.

A different kind of cello player is performing in Petersburg, Feb. 25. Gideon Freudmann is a composer who takes the tradition of the cello and makes it his own. He’s performing at the Wright Auditorium at 7 p.m. in a show that’s sponsored by the Petersburg Arts Council.

This week, Alaska Native Civil Rights activist Elizabeth Peratrovich was the first Alaska Native to be minted on a U.S. coin. Peratrovich was Tlingit and her hometown of Petersburg is gearing up for a celebration this Sunday marking the 75th anniversary of her famous testimony to the Alaska Legislature.
