Petersburg Ranger District authorizes wilderness survival show, “Outlast,” to film in Little Duncan Bay

The cast and crew of a reality television show will start filming in the second weekend of October in a popular hunting spot near Petersburg. They’ll stay there for the next 40 days. That means a longer season for some local transportation and hospitality businesses — but the project is also pushing aside hunters in the middle of deer and moose season.

Birdwatching is one of the fastest-growing nature-based tourism sectors in the world — and the hobby is soaring in popularity in Alaska. Now, Audubon Alaska is swooping in on the virtual bird boom. The organization partnered with the U.S. Forest Service and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to create the Southeast Alaska Birding Trail — a free virtual guide to 18 communities across the bird-rich region.
