Tongass roundtable loses members from four towns

PETERSBURG-AK The Tongass Futures Roundtable has been meeting again this week, but with fewer members. The state recently announced it was leaving the organization, which was formed five years ago to find some consensus among conservation and logging stakeholders in the Southeast. That’s been a struggle and as Matt Lichtenstein reports, several Southeast community leaders late last week (5/12) said they were quitting too.

Renovated municipal building opens in Petersburg

Commercial fisheries in Southeast Alaska have survived two years of state budget cuts but not without some changes. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s Division of Commercial Fisheries has cut some positions, ended some monitoring programs, and found some new funding sources. more
