The 10-piece band, Gamble and the High Costa Living, is performing in Petersburg Saturday night at the Sons of Norway Hall starting at 8 p.m. The group is flying in from Juneau for the show.

This is High Costa Living playing recently at a KRNN radio station in Juneau:

If the song sounds familiar to you, it should. The band plays covers and they have the reputation for drawing people out onto the dance floor.

Gamble and the High Costa Living formed a couple of years ago from various musicians in Juneau. They have performed together at the Folk Fest the last two years.

The group is led by Collette Costa, which is where part of the band’s name comes from. She’s been playing music in Alaska for over 20 years. I spoke with her by telephone about the band and she describes them as sort of a mix between the Commitments and the Blues Brothers:

The Saturday concert is sponsored by the Petersburg Arts Council. They say that there will not be a bar at the show but people can BYOB if they choose.

Tickets are $15 in advance at Lee’s Clothing and $20 at the door.
