Petersburg High School swim teams competed in a regional meet in Ketchikan last weekend. The boys and girls finished in 5th place out of six teams. Sitka took first, Juneau Douglas second, and Thunder Mountain from Juneau finished third.

Petersburg Coach Andy Carlisle was very happy with the results. He told KFSK’s Angela Denning that the swimmers were also pleased.

Next up for the Vikings is a regional swim meet at home the last weekend in September.

Some of the highlights from the Ketchikan meet:

Maddy Whitethorn took first place in the girls 100 yard freestyle on Saturday.

Maria Pfundt took second place in the girls 100 yard butterfly on Friday.

Rylan Wallace took first in the boys 50 yard freestyle on Friday. He took second place in the 100 yard butterfly, also on Friday.

Van Abbott took first in the boys 100 yard breaststroke. Ethan Kludt-Painter finished second in that event.

Abbott also took second place in the boys 200 yard individual medley on Friday. And he took third in the boys 100 yard freestyle on Saturday.

Britton Erickson took third place in the boys 50 yard freestyle on Saturday.

And the boys relay team took first place both days in the 200 yard freestyle. The team included Van Abbott, Britton Erickson, Ethan Kludt-Painter, and Rylan Wallace.
