Five Finger Lighthouse (Joe Sykes/KFSK)

People in Petersburg Thursday, March 29 can learn more about Five Finger Lighthouse and some of the research on humpback whales occurring there this summer.

The historic light house in Frederick Sound north of Petersburg is a summertime base for some of the research done each year by the Alaska Whale Foundation. The Juneau Lighthouse Association owns the buildings and is looking for volunteer help in maintaining the site.

Whale foundation board member Fred Sharpe is returning to Southeast Alaska for his 31st summer researching the region’s humpbacks and he’ll be speaking at the Petersburg Public Library. Joe Viechnicki spoke with him for an update.

The Alaska Whale Foundation’s Fred Sharpe will give a talk and slide show Thursday, March 29 at the library at 7 p.m.
