There’s a free concert tonight in Petersburg of classical singing and piano. Soprano Katharine Dain will perform with Jeffrey Grossman on piano.

Dain lives in the Netherlands and is performing a Mozart opera in France this year. She’s performed with orchestras and opera companies throughout Europe and the U.S.

Grossman lives in New York City and is a keyboardist and conductor. He’s directing and performing this year with the baroque ensemble The Sebastians and as a harpsichord soloist with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra among other appearances.

The concert is presented by the Petersburg Arts Council, Petersburg Piano Society and the Piatigorsky Foundation. That organization was founded to bring classical music to places that don’t normally get to hear it. Last year, the foundation’s founder Evan Drachman performed here on cello.
Joe Viechnicki spoke with Dain about their program for this year.

The free concert is Thursday, May 3 at 7 p.m.at the Lutheran Church. Donations will be accepted to help cover the performers’ expenses. The tour also has stops this month in Sitka, Skagway, Haines and Juneau.
