Understanding in-season management and escapement goals for salmon are the topics of a talk in Petersburg Thursday, January 24. The Petersburg Science Series is featuring Milo Adkison , a professor at the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences of the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Adkison works in Juneau and specializes in researching salmon biology, population and management. He’s developed a couple of online games to give a feel for what it’s like to manage a salmon fishery and juggle the demands of letting enough fish return to spawn while allowing enough open time for commercial fishing. Adkison is giving these talks in several salmon fishing towns in Alaska. Joe Viechnicki spoke with him about tonight’s presentation and his online games.

That talk is Thursday, January 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the public library community room. He will also be talking to a high school science class. Adkison’s interactive management games are here and here.
