Another COVID case was announced in Petersburg Wednesday night. The Emergency Operations Center says a third case was identified in the same household as two other cases announced Tuesday. The new case is also related to recent travel like the other two.

The nursing program is run through the Petersburg Medical Center in conjunction with the University of Alaska Anchorage. A pinning ceremony was held May 1 in the Lutheran Church’s parish hall and was streamed online. The nurses will be able to work as RNs at PMC after they take their board exams.

Some Petersburg residents went without power during two, long outages on Saturday. Both black outs were caused by an insulator problem in the Scow Bay area and affected the core area of Petersburg including downtown.

Petersburg teachers have a new labor agreement with the school district. The new contract covers the next three years until the spring of 2024 and gives teachers a small raise each year. There is also more flexibility with sick and personal leave as well as a minimum amount of prep time established.
