Navy seeks expanded area for Northern Edge drills in 2023

The U.S. Navy is proposing to add a 246,000-square-mile zone that would extend westward as far as Dutch Harbor in the Aleutians in 2023. It would be for transiting ships, the military says, and not involve live firing or active sonar which have been controversial in the past.

Dunleavy administration loses lawsuit over Kake hunt

A federal judge has rejected the Dunleavy administration’s legal challenge to an out-of-season hunt authorized by the feds during the early months of the COVID pandemic. The Organized Village of Kake had requested the deer and moose harvest out of concerns about food security.
