Herring are spawning in a big way near Craig on Prince of Wales Island in southern Southeast Alaska.

Petersburg elected officials Monday discussed the possibility of going beyond the state’s travel mandate for essential businesses. The head of Petersburg’s Medical Center asked for a mandatory two week quarantine for season workers expected to come to town this summer or any essential workers arriving from out of state.

A reduction in airline service will mean a short-term loss of connecting flights to Seattle for people flying in and out of Petersburg.

Petersburg’s wholesale electrical power provider is moving forward with replacement of a damaged submarine transmission line that supplies hydroelectricity to Petersburg.

Petersburg’s borough assembly Monday approved several measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those include a pay out from the borough’s economic fund for local businesses and the green light for the local hospital to apply for a payroll loan.
