The U.S. Coast Guard has released a list of communications towers in Alaska that may not be receiving VHF radio broadcasts and is warning mariners to bring back up communications systems.

Petersburg’s swimming pool is closed this week with multiple problems during a cold snap. The borough’s Parks and Recreation Department has shut down both the lap pool and a warmer leisure pool until further notice.

Each year thousands of people set out to hike along the 2650 mile Pacific Crest Trail through California, Oregon and Washington. Each year that hike can be drastically different. 2018 saw hikers struggling through smoke of unprecedented wild fires. Last year was another year of well-above-average snow pack.

Petersburg’s swimming pool is closed this week until further notice as the borough works to fix problems with heating and air handling systems at the public facility during a cold spell.

Among the bills already filed for the upcoming legislative session is one that would offer relief from a new state registration requirement for owners of commercial fishing boats.
