State highway maintenance workers cleared Mitkof Highway south of Petersburg. A slide of mud and trees blocked the road early Saturday morning as heavy rains brought down part of that hillside.

One of the casualties of budget cutting by the Petersburg borough in recent years has been painting lines on downtown streets. There may be some interest in paying for that again next year.

Curbside collection of co-mingled recyclable material is on hold in Petersburg starting next Monday, September 23rd.

Besides choosing the next mayor, Petersburg voters will be filling two seats on the borough assembly in October. Four people are running for two seats on the governing body that decides spending and makes local law for the municipality. The four candidates say they’d take a different approach to serving on the assembly and also differ in some of their top priorities.

Voters have a choice for Petersburg’s mayor on the October 1st municipal ballot, between a current and former mayor. The candidates offer a clear contrast on public safety staffing decisions, a local land swap and other issues. They expanded on their views on a number of subjects during last week’s candidates forum.
