After just nine months, a small airline in Southeast is ending scheduled service to Petersburg and Juneau. Island Air Express is discontinuing scheduled stops in the two communities on January 15th.

The state’s Board of Game opened up a five-day meeting in Petersburg Friday. They’re meeting to decide over 50 proposed changes to hunting and trapping regulations for Southeast Alaska.

Small town life, relationships in commercial fishing families and the impacts of Individual Fishing Quota on a community are a few of the themes in a new book of fiction based on Petersburg. Christi Slaven, former fisherman and teacher published her first book in 2018, called “Home Is Where The Fish Are.”

For the first time in seven years, Petersburg’s population increased in 2018. That’s according to the latest estimates from the Alaska Department of Labor. The Petersburg borough population was estimated to be 3,198 people in July of 2018, up 61 people from the year before.
