Petersburg homes could see a reduction in curbside recycling collection as soon as next month.

Alaska’s Board of Fisheries opened a nearly two-week meeting Thursday on proposed changes to commercial, sport and subsistence fisheries in Southeast Alaska.

Petersburg’s borough assembly Monday approved pay increases and incentive payments for police officers and dispatchers. The changes are meant to keep employees already on the force and attract others to fill jobs in a short-staffed department.

An internal report by the Petersburg borough suggests incentive pay and salary increases to help fill vacant jobs and retain employees in the police department. Members of the department say they’re in crisis mode for a lack of dispatchers and the problem has gotten worse this winter.
