A bill to fund maintenance work and enhancement programs at state owned sport fish hatcheries passed the Alaska House this month but time is running out on its passage this session.

It was a narrow margin Monday but Petersburg’s borough assembly approved a ballot question on a remote subdivision on eastern Mitkof Island. Voters will decide whether those lands should stay in the part of the borough that has a higher property tax rate. However, the assembly was not interested in advancing a different question on instituting term limits for the assembly and mayor.

Hammer and Wikan celebrated the Petersburg family company’s 100th anniversary over the Little Norway Festival weekend. Thursday night shareholders and workers unveiled a new three-panel mural on the side of the downtown hardware store building. It honors the founders of the company, their history and Norwegian roots.

Petersburg’s borough assembly Monday threw its weight behind the Petersburg Medical Center’s approach to pursuing a new hospital facility.
