Petersburg assembly to resume pot business opt-out discussion

Petersburg’s Borough Assembly Monday, June 6 will be resuming their discussion on possible ballot questions on marijuana sales in the community. The assembly last month heard from community members about whether to allow pot businesses to operate in the borough and whether the public should have a chance to vote on opting out of legal pot sales here. The mayor and assembly are hoping to hear more input on the issue as they weigh whether to put an opt-out question on the October 2016 borough ballot.

Stranding team asks for reports of entangled humpback in Southeast

A marine mammal stranding team in Southeast Alaska is asking for the public’s help in locating a humpback whale caught in an anchor line near Admiralty Island, south of Juneau. The 40-foot-long adult humpback was first reported on Wednesday morning, June 1st towing an anchor, line and buoys in Seymour Canal on the eastern side of Admiralty Island.
