Forecast could mean some early fishing for Stikine king salmon

There could be some commercial fishing early next May for king salmon returning to the Stikine River in Southeast Alaska. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is forecasting a return of just under 34,000 large Stikine king salmon next year.

Southeast representative hopes to advance other issues during session

The second regular session of the 29th Alaska Legislature gets underway next month and the discussion in the halls of the state capital will likely again be centered around the state’s three and a half billion dollar budget deficit. Sitka Democrat Jonathon Kreiss-Tomkins, Petersburg’s representative in the Alaska House, will be helping to make some of those difficult decisions about the state budget as well as trying to advance other legislation he’s introduced.
