Petersburg’s North Harbor opens this week

Boats are making their way back into Petersburg’s North Harbor this week. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. to celebrate the upgraded harbor, which has been almost 20 years in the making. The project started back in 1996.

“It’s kind of surreal,” says Glorianne Wollen. “We’ve been talking about it for so long and it’s finally happened.”

92-year-old Art Hammer remembers serving in WWII

Hammer is a well-known name in Petersburg. Hammer Slough is right downtown and a home there is where Art Hammer was born. His military experience came 20 years later, when he was drafted in 1942. He spent the next four years in the Air Force, all of that time in Alaska.
