Partners in Education or PIE wants to find more parents and other community members who are willing to donate a little time to help teachers with a variety of tasks from photocopying papers or tuning guitars to organizing activities. Children’s Center. The town rallied to help the non-profit daycare facility this spring after a former executive director stole thousands of dollars and the organization found itself facing tens of thousands more in unpaid taxes. Thanks to an outpouring of community support, the daycare remained open. Center officials say they’ve paid off much of the debt, instituted new financial safeguards, and have grown stronger as an organization. Matt Lichtenstein recently toured the Children’s Center to find the pre-school kids and their caretakers fully engaged in the business of learning and play.
