Surveys show increase in deer population near Petersburg

The deer hunt on Mitkof Island continues until the end of the month. State surveys in recent years have shown a major increase in the deer population around Petersburg.

Record number of moose taken in Southeast fall moose hunt

117 moose were taken in this fall’s moose hunt in Unit 3 near Petersburg, Wrangell, and Kake. That’s the most on record since 2009, when this kind of antler hunt started each fall.

Some crabbers not excited about the red king crab opening
