A fledgling independent ferry authority is asking the Inter-Island Ferry Authority to lease a vessel to resume service between Coffman Cove, Wrangell and South Mitkof Island near Petersburg. The port authority formed by residents of Coffman Cove is still hoping this spring to restart the route that was once covered by the IFA. Joe Viechnicki reports.

US and Canadian fishery scientists went through their reports and recommendations at the start of the International Pacific Halibut Commission’s annual meeting in Victoria, British Columbia Tuesday. The staff also took some questions from audience members, whose concerns included halibut bycatch as well as policy changes and research methodology that have prompted more quota cuts in most areas.
