The High School Blank Mural Project is inches away from completion. High School art teacher and local artist, Ashley Duross, has been heading up the mural. Melati Kaye stopped by the Petersburg High School wrestling room to talk with Duross and her students about the new artwork.

The Petersburg School Board unanimously voted in favor of restoring the High School Close Up trip to Washington DC next year. That decision came after a packed house of students and parents appealed to the Board at this week’s meeting.

The Petersburg City Council has passed the second reading of a measure that would ban smoking in local businesses and public places. The latest version of the measure includes a number of significant changes from the original. A university of Alaska Fairbanks researcher will be studying the effects of expanding sea otter populations on the Southeast shellfish industry this summer. The project was the subject of a presentation at the Petersburg Marine Mammal Center’s annual meeting last week.
