The Assembly will look at an ordinance to increase the Borough’s tax on room rentals from four percent to seven percent. The transient room tax is applied to rooms that are rented at Petersburg hotels, motels, lodges, and Airbnbs for fewer than 30 days.

Petersburg’s largest child care center will open back up Monday after being closed since mid-March. Petersburg Children’s Center will operate on its normal schedule but there will
be less children in the beginning.
Governor Mike Dunleavy’s proposed budget would cut $17 million in state funding for daycare and preschool programs: $8 million for preschools and $9 million for Head Start and other programs directed at low income families.
As Angela Denning reports, that would affect 15 Head Start classrooms in Southeast and another main daycare facility in Petersburg.
