It looks like voters in Petersburg will have another chance this fall to weigh in on a proposed change to the senior sales tax exemption. Petersburg’s borough assembly Monday, June 4 approved the first reading of an ordinance that would end the exemption for people 65 and older and replace it with an annual rebate for low income seniors.

A long-serving member of the faith community and the local volunteer fire department left town over the weekend, headed for semi-retirement in West Virginia. Reverend Bob Carter came to town in November of 2002 with his wife Gladys to take on the role of pastor of the Presbyterian Church. He’s been an active part of the ministerial association here and the couple has helped put on many events in the community. Carter also joined the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department in 2005 and later became captain of the search and rescue squad.

Six runners from Petersburg competed in the 19th Prince of Wales Island marathon last weekend. The annual 26 point 2 miles run was Saturday, May 26th in an out and back course starting and ending in Craig.
