PHS baseball opens season with three home losses
Petersburg High School’s baseball team lost three home games to Ketchikan to open the season Friday and Saturday. The Vikings lost 13-0 Friday and then 13-1 and 17-6 on Saturday.

Thunder Mountain took first for the girls teams while Ketchikan was first for the boys. Petersburg is competing against larger 3A and 4A schools in Southeast and took top spots in numerous events.
Community members gathered at Petersburg’s Sons of Norway Hall Sunday for the blessing of the fleet. The annual service marks the start of a new year’s fishing season and remembers those who are no longer here. It’s put on each year by the Petersburg Ministerial Association, the Petersburg Vessel Owners and the Sons of Norway and it was held indoors this year on a rainy afternoon.

Read MorePetersburg is sending a letter to top officials in the state’s Department of Natural Resources asking for updated information for the borough’s land entitlement. That land grant for the municipality was increased last year in legislation passed by the legislature and signed by the governor. The borough has until October 1st of this year to submit all its requests for land from the state.
