The borough’s public works director says he’s withdrawn his name for a new proposed job of utility director following the results of Petersburg’s election. That will leave it up to the new borough assembly to decide whether or not to seek a new superintendent for Petersburg Municipal Power and Light or continue on with the current administrators on an interim basis.

Voter turnout was high this week as Petersburg residents decided the mayor’s race, two assembly seats and seven ballot questions.

A proposed change to the rules for how many Petersburg borough assembly members need to be at a meeting in person ran into some resistance from assembly members Monday. The change would allow assembly members calling in to a meeting to vote and make up the minimum needed for a meeting.

Petersburg High School’s girls cross country team took fourth place among division two schools at the state meet at Bartlett High School in Anchorage Saturday. The boys were ninth.
