Snow sidelines part of Mitkof Island deer study

A pilot study of the deer population of Mitkof Island around Petersburg has been hampered by deep snow this winter. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s deer biologist doing the research hopes to continue it beyond 2022. He’s also adjusted some of the initial findings from that work.

SE lawmaker hopes for fiscal fixes in 2022

Petersburg’s representative in the Alaska House returns for his tenth year in the capital. Sitka Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins went into last year’s regular session with a priority of passing a constitutional amendment capping the amount that can be spent from the earnings of the Alaska Permanent Fund. His bill hasn’t made it yet out of committees in the House.
