Mallott calls for pristine trans-boundary rivers into Alaska’s future

Alaska’s Lieutenant Governor Byron Mallott was the keynote speaker at this week’s annual meeting of Southeast Conference in Petersburg.
During his speech Wednesday morning, Mallott addressed climate change and fisheries, this year’s failed pink salmon runs, mining concerns on the transboundary rivers in Southeast Alaska, the Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission and the Alaska Marine Highway System.

PHS swimmers take some top spots in Juneau pool

Petersburg High Schools swimmers recorded some top-three finishes at an invitational meet in Juneau last weekend.The Vikings competed against teams from Juneau-Douglas, Thunder Mountain, Sitka and Ketchikan. The boys and girls teams were both fourth on Friday night and fifth on Saturday. The host Crimson Bears won for both boys and girls both nights.
