School administrators in Petersburg are floating the idea of adding one more day a month off from school for students next year. It’s a proposal to help teachers catch up with required training and the district is hoping to hear feedback on the plan.

Local painter Doris Olsen tonight opens up her second in a series of monthly mini art shows based on a theme. This month the show is called “Seaweed Swirl” and it features nine paintings of bull kelp in different color schemes.

A committee of Petersburg residents is narrowing down its list of land the new borough might select from the state. That committee met this month and focused on economic development lands like rock pits, boat ramps and parcels that could be used for environmental mitigation.

Two Petersburg men were arrested this week and are facing charges for intending to sell heroin and methamphetamine. 63-year-old Lawrence “Lorry” Christensen and his brother, 56-year-old Lars Christensen are both charged with two counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance, in the second degree and third degree.
