Petersburg seeks meeting with state on Kake road

Petersburg’s borough assembly Tuesday voted to send a letter to the Alaska Department of Transportation seeking a meeting with the state agency over a remote road project on Kupreanof Island near the neighboring community of Kake. The Kake road project is moving forward this year at the same time a state report raises the possibility of ending ferry service to that community.

Petersburg assembly OKs first reading of assisted living rent hikes

Petersburg’s borough assembly Tuesday approved the first of three readings for an increase in rents at the borough’s assisted living facility at Mountain View Manor. The change would also start charging for the highest level of care and increase service charges for all levels of care.

Leak may be located in Petersburg pool lighting

The Petersburg Parks and Recreation Department thinks it may have located a leak in the lap pool that is one of the problems keeping the facility closed this month.

Science learning continues after school at Petersburg Public Library

Kids in Petersburg can continue their learning about a wide range of topics in science after school hours at the Petersburg Public Library. The Viking Science Academy started up at the library last fall. The sessions are designed for kids in grades 5 through 8. They’re an hour long on Thursday afternoons.
