Petersburg’s borough assembly Monday gave the first approval to a new local law clarifying that exemptions to local sales tax do not apply to sales of marijuana or marijuana products in the borough. But the assembly agreed to make clear those exemptions are still valid for hemp or CBD products.

After all the votes were counted, the race for the Petersburg mayor’s seat ended slightly closer than the unofficial count on election night.

Borough officials assured the assembly Monday that Petersburg’s curbside recycling program will be restarting this fall, after the solid waste baler is completed.

For the second Sunday in a row, the power went out in Petersburg, this time caused by windy weather.

Petersburg resident and collector Karen Hofstad was honored by the Alaska Historical Society last month for her donations to local and state museums. Her 2019 book on the history of salmon canneries and salmon can labels was also recognized.
