From snow plowing to economic development and staffing issues, Petersburg’s borough manager has his marching orders. The borough assembly Friday approved a list of 13 goals and objectives for manager Steve Giesbrecht to work on in the next year.

Petersburg’s borough assembly Friday approved a contract for replacing electric meters in North Harbor. The new meters will no longer require an electric department employee to read that service information in person. Instead hookup, usage and disconnection information will be transmitted directly to the municipal building. The borough is looking into whether that technology will work in the other harbors and may expand the program to other parts of town.

A sport utility vehicle broke through the guardrail and may have narrowly missed falling off the wooden bridge over Hammer Slough in Petersburg early Sunday morning.

Petersburg’s borough assembly Friday decided again to wait on a larger hike to the property tax rate for property owners inside the old city limits. The assembly instead passed a small increase to the tax rate for service area one and a small decrease for the greater borough.
