Plenty of fun for kids at the 2016 Rainforest Festival

The annual Rainforest Festival begins Thursday. Festival committee member and organizer Sunny Rice says the four-day event looks at the rainforest in the broadest sense, with an emphasis on how humans interact with the environment. There are events for people of all ages. Abbey Collins spoke with Rice for more details about those activities geared toward younger members of the community.

An unexpected guest checked in outside the Petersburg High School last week. The visiting salmon shark didn’t take the bus. It rode in the back of Joe Willis’ pickup truck.

PHS cross country teams shine on home course

Petersburg High School’s cross country runners shone on their home course Saturday morning, as the high school season had its second week of warm sunny weather in normally rainy Southeast. It was the second meet of the season and the second Saturday under sunny skies. Petersburg assistant coach Debby Eddy said many people came out to watch a big group of runners.
