The Petersburg High School boys basketball team ended the season on a winning note, finishing fourth at the 2A state tournament in Anchorage Saturday.
The Vikings beat the Cordova Wolverines 51-49 in the game for fourth place Saturday morning. Thomas Durkin and Gunnar Payne both scored 12 points for Petersburg in that game and Mark Neidiffer had 11.
Petersburg High School’s Viking cheer squad took first place at the region five tournament in Ketchikan earlier this month, the fourth region title in as many years. The team practices through the fall and winter, cheering at basketball games and preparing a performance for the regional tournament. This year’s team had 13 students, including five seniors.
